Decorating “slide mailers” is becoming a hot new trend in rubber stamping, and they are so fun to create with.  A slide mailer is a sturdy, cardboard folding mailer the medical industry uses to send microscope slides through the mail.  The cardboard mailers open and close like a mini-book, and are perfect for creative projects like this one.  I love this project because is has lots of surprises as you open and pull things out.

Slide mailers are available on the internet in single, double and quads.  A single has one slide compartment on the inside, a double has two compartments and a quad has four.  This Removable ATC (Artist Trading Card) Project uses a double slide mailer, where the interior opening has been enlarged with a craft knife to hold a traditional 2 ˝ x 3 ˝ ATC card.

Instructions:

  1. Open the double slide mailer, then use a craft knife and metal edged ruler to enlarge the slide openings so it will hold a 2 ˝ x 3 ˝ ATC.  This takes a little effort, but is worth the trouble.  (See image #1 below.)

  2. Edge the sides of the mailer inside and out with a Krylon Gold Leafing Pen.  (See image #2 below.)

  3. Trim and attach four pieces of decorative paper, to the inside and outside covers.  Remember, you want some of the gold leaf edging to be seen.

  4. Stamp phrase “The Brooding Princess” on a turquoise panel, edge with gold leafing pen and secure to inside left cover.

  5. Stamp Shy Dragon and Mini Sorcha on white glossy cardstock, color with markers and trim close to the stamp lines.

  6. Write “The End” on a small turquoise panel edged with gold leafing pen and secure with dragon to the inside right recess of the mailer.

  7. Attach the trimmed Mini Sorcha to a turquoise matted gold panel which has been edged with gold, and mount it to the closed front of the slide mailer.

  8. Create and insert the matching removable ATC to finish (see below).

Instructions for the matching ATC:

(Princess ATC)

  1. Create a 2 ˝ x 3 ˝ ATC-size panel from turquoise cardstock edged with gold leafing pen.

  2. Attach a slightly smaller piece of decorative paper to the turquoise ATC.

  3. Stamp Betryse Broods onto white glossy cardstock, color with markers and trim image close to the stamp lines.

  4. Mount Betryse to the center of the ATC.

  5. Insert the removable ATC into the double slide mailer opening.
